Datum: 13-05-2013    Pegasus back into the water
In advance we had attached a row of trash bags under the boat, to protect the new antifouling coating. All shutters closed and then it’s:  hoist away! With great care and attention the ties were attached by the people of the “Rietpol” and the boat was heaved into the water.

Just to stay on the safe side, they let the Pegasus hang in the ties for some time, so Fred could check if there was any leakage from the shutters. Yes, she’s floating! We did the job well, everything works fine. We berthed the boat at a quiet spot in the marina of the Rietpol; here Pegasus would lie until our departure.

The in the direction of the A9 (=highway)-bridge, that opens only 3 x a day, so we had to be on time. Next the Buitenhuizenbridge, the last one before we are back at the Noordzeekanaal (=Northsee canal). This bridge is operated all day long, but the lockmaster drily lets us know, that the bridge is closed until further notice and that the mechanic would arrive in the course of the afternoon to fix things. Bummer!! So all we could do was berthing at the waiting pier in front of the bridge, together with two other sailing boats. In any case, there now was enough time to relax, have a coffee and warm up with our little heater. Finally the bridge is repaired around 12:15 and we can go through to Ijmuiden. Here we arrive at 13:15 and we have the lock all to ourselves!

Never experienced that before, but it feels very relaxed. At 14:00 we put to sea on the engine, with the mainsail. Later on we also put the jib up. At last, we are sailing again, albeit with a little help from the engine! We are back in our element!

The weather was o.k., cold, but apart from a few drops, hardly any rain. Because we have AIS, Fred’s sis and her husband could follow us via internet. We entered Scheveningen Marina around 18:30 and noticed it was packed with sailing yachts. It turned out that the North Sea Regatta had taken place and we wondered if there still might be a spot for us. Fortunately, we could get alongside two other boats and were lying up front in the harbour, which was convenient for our departure next day for Rotterdam. Freek, our brother-in-law, was already waiting on the quay (very handy, AIS!), to take us to their home, where we would have dinner. Fred’s brother, André and his kids were there too and it was nice to see everyone again. Ingrid is a magnificent cook and we enjoyed the meal tremendously! Being outside all day makes you rosy anyway and if you put some wine to that, you can strike me off. I was convinced I would sleep very soundly that night, but alas!, at our return to the marina there was a big party for the Regatta-participants. The music was fine, so it wasn’t all that bad. The next day, Freek and his youngest daughter Mia would sail with us to Rotterdam.
