February 2012 started with a cold front from the east. Friday the 3rd February all of the country was under the spell of snow.

Sunday the 5th we went to Pegasus, just to see how she was. Se picture above. It was a duster of snow of 10 cm. After sweeping it off the boat, we went inside. Luckily the electric heater took care of the temperature, keeping it in the double digits.

Bought seacharts for our trip to the Channel Islands coming summer. In Vlaardingen there is a guy named Piet, who has a collection of expired charts from the commercial shipping. These are charts from the British Admiralty that the commercial shipping is not allowed use anymore, cannot even have them on board.
However, they are very fit for pleasure cruising, also because most of the charts are updated until 2010. Piet files the charts by number and keeps them for everyone who is interested. Depending on the quality he charges 3 to 5 Euros per chart.
Today I was able to buy 10 charts from Piet for the sum of 30 Euros. The year of issue varies from 2005 to 2010.

You can send Piet an e-mail at: vanderkaart@gmail.com or call +31 (0) 6 1660 0622, tell him the  BA chartnumbers you want  and he will check if he has them in store. Preparing Pegasus for the season. We are busy trimming Pegasus. There is a lot of cabling lying about in the boat that goes from nothing to nowhere, in other words a lot of cables without function or utility. We’ve pulled out all the cables, but not without removing the panels. Sunday 18th March the  cupboard next to the chart table has been organised. There are now only a some more cables left on the side of the cupboard. Even the Navtex has to ‘suffer’.  No wonder it didn’t work: the 12 V is not connected. Furthermore we tidied  the ‘guest chambers’, cabin at the back portside and cleaned it.
In our own bunk we have drilled holes in the planks under the matrass for ventilation. It seems a person looses litres of liquid every night and that water has to go somewhere. We also have other different projects in the pipeline: darken the shutters, the bucket table, the bathroom floor and the saloon....
