 Last weeks
The new year doesn’t start all together well for me. I probably have contracted a cold, in Chefchaouen, because of the difference in temperature. It starts with a cold, a lot of coughing and a temperature. After coughing my lungs out for more than a week, I only can state that I have pneumonia. As an ‘experienced expert’ I know the signs and I know this will only go away with antibiotics. It always takes longer with me than the average person. Luckily, we have the right medication on board (thank you, family doctor!) and I can start right away. This is one of the reasons we stayed much longer in Salé/Rabat than we planned. The weather was alternating from chilly to sunny to pretty warm. The waves sometimes went too high to leave Rabat, so we never had the chance to go out for a days’ sailing with Aicha and Ayoub.

Farewell to Aicha and Ayoub
We do our washing once more at Aicha and Ayoub, drink tea and have couscous for the last time with the family! The come on board for the last time and we hand them some presents for remembrance. Then we have an enjoyable dinner in the Medina. The next day we are expected for lunch at their home and enjoy the nice little pastry that Ayoub has especially bought for us! A last lunch together and then the time has come to really say goodbye. Because Ayoub doesn’t want to touch me because of his Islamic faith, he gives me his hug through Aicha. We are very glad we have met these two young people.
Other sailors
Another French boat has come into the harbour, but for the rest it is nice and quiet. Petra and Martin (“Bravelander”) will leave for the Canary Islands one of these days; we might meet them there later.
Kit
Does his daily rounds on deck and nowadays also on the pier. Every now and then he disappears under the steering wheel cover of the neighbouring boat, but fortunately we know that by now. He has quickly adapted to the life on board. He also feels at home at Petra and Martin’s boat and even hops on board when they are in.This will also be due to the fact that we see each other regularly and that Petra fed him, when we stayed a night out.
Various things
We do some shopping, gather info about the next stop in Morocco. We do our last washes by hand and tidy up the boat. Of course, our mascot FRITZ and Gonny the Duck (for my granddaughter) have to be recorded, on a picture.
As a hobby, I crochet, mostly dolls or animals in small sizes, and always for other people. We discover a little shop in the Medina, which sells crocheting wool and not much later I walk out of the shop with a bag full. For less than 100 DH (€ 10,00) I bought 14 balls of wool. Now I can really start another project!

It is high time to go on. As soon as the waves allow it and I feel fit enough to leave, we go. The plan was first to sail to Essaouira and then to Agadir, but now we decide to go straight to Agadir.
